Gambling odds according to WynnBET:

  • Line: Appalachian State -3
  • Over/Under: 67.5
  • Moneyline: Appalachian State -150; Western Kentucky +130

This year’s RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl is C-USA vs. Sun Belt matchup that could dictate a top 25 finish for one team. Hey that makes it somewhat interesting, and it’s the first projected close matchup of the year.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers barely lost the Sun Belt title game, but they did win the Sun Belt East, and while they are receiving nine votes in the AP Poll, they are also getting two votes in the Coaches Poll, so anything is possible.

On the other side, the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers also lost their conference championship game, falling to the UTSA Roadrunners 49-41 despite a furious comeback. Led by former Tennessee football offensive coordinator Tyson Helton, WKU is on a roll overall, though, as they rallied from a 1-4 start to win seven straight in clinching the C-USA East.

Prediction

Offensive coordinator Zach Kittley is taking over as head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders, while wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley and offensive tackle Mason Brooks are entering the transfer portal. They’ll all play in the bowl game, but the distractions will be too much for this offense. As a result, it will sputter, allowing Appalachian State to cover while the game hits the under.

Appalachian State: 35 Western Kentucky: 27 (Appalachian State -3; Under 67.5)
