Gambling odds according to WynnBET:

  • Line: Oregon State -7.5
  • Over/Under: 67
  • Moneyline: Oregon State -290; Utah State +230

Finally, we’ve got a matchup involving a Power Five team, although it’s a Power Five against a Group of Five team. The Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl Presented by Stifel also has top 25 implications for one team, so there’s plenty to make this game interesting.

In their first year under head coach Blake Anderson, the Utah State Aggies shocked the world and won the Mountain West Conference Championship, blowing out the San Diego State Aztecs 46-13. Now receiving 85 votes in the Coaches Poll and 109 votes in the AP Poll, a win in this game almost certainly puts them in the top 25 to finish the year.

Meanwhile, the Oregon State Beavers are finally back in a bowl game, something they haven’t done since Mike Riley in 2013. Jonathan Smith went 5-4 in Pac-12 play, and he even upset the Pac-12 champion Utah Utes, so he’s hard to figure out. He does have  a loss to Tennessee football’s Music City Bowl opponent, the Purdue Boilermakers.

Prediction

Without leading tackler Avery Roberts and with receiver Tre’Shaun Harrison ejected for the first half, Oregon State is going to fall behind early. They’ll then fight back in the second half for a thrilling win to end the game, but they won’t cover. Again, the over/under is too high, as there’s no reason to believe this will be points galore, but it will be a bit of a shootout. Still, take the under.

Oregon State: 34 Utah State: 31 (Utah State +7.5; Under 67)
