Quick Lane Bowl (Monday, Dec. 27)

Western Michigan Broncos over Nevada Wolf Pack

On the same day as this bowl game, the Boston College Eagles and East Carolina Pirates will face off in the Military Bowl Presented by Peraton. BC is 6-6, and ECU is 7-5. As a result, if Tennessee football wins its bowl game, it will safely be ahead of both teams in the top 25. Also, nothing about either team poses a recruiting threat.

In terms of all the factors we’ve brought up, this may be the least important game on here, but it’s slightly relevant to the Vols. They have a rooting interest here more on a just-in-case basis than they do for any real tangible issue.

The Western Michigan Broncos come in with a 7-5 record. No matter what, they won’t finish ahead of UT. On the other side, though, the Nevada Wolf Pack come in with an 8-4 record, so they could end up being somewhat of a threat.

Although neither team is receiving votes right now in any poll, Nevada could warrant consideration over the Vols if they win and finish 9-4. That would be wrong if UT wins its bowl game, but hey, don’t take any chances. As a result, Vol fans should root for Western Michigan just to make sure both teams finish 8-5.
