Tennessee football makes cut for elite in-state 2023 WR Adarius Redmond
After missing out on key prospects within the state for 2022, Josh Heupel should have a better chance in 2023 with lots of the issues surrounding Tennessee football behind them. Over the weekend, he got one step closer to doing just that with a local prospect.
The Vols are in the top five for 2023 wide receiver Adarius Redmond. A four-star across the board out of Powell High School in Knox County, Tenn., just outside of Knoxville, Redmond stands at 6’1″ and weighs in the range of 180 to 185 pounds.
Joining Tennessee football on Redmond’s list are the Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators, LSU Tigers and Penn State Nittany Lions. With UGA being the only bordering school, UT should have a good shot. He announced the schools Friday evening on Twitter.
One of Redmond’s current teammates is five-star 2022 defensive lineman Walter Nolen, whom the Vols lost out on to the Texas A&M Aggies. That may not be a great sign, but there are lots of factors that went into that.
Obviously, being out from under the shadows of an NCAA investigation and questions about the program under Heupel, the Vols were already going to be in better shape for 2023 area prospects. However, there’s another factor when it comes to Redmond specifically.
Heupel’s offensive system is making Rocky Top a huge draw for wide receivers. By 2023, the Vols will likely need even more help at the position too, so a guy like Redmond could be a huge addition and potentially play early. if he decides to stay home.
Currently, there are no favorites to land Redmond on the Rivals Future Cast or the 247Sports Crystal Ball. However, the Rivals Fan Future Cast, albeit unscientific, has Tennessee football as the favorite by a huge majority. As a result, the Vols should be in good shape to land this guy, and making the cut for him given his hometown should be the expectation.
