Two days after losing their first game of the season, the Tennessee Lady Vols take the court again for their final game before Christmas. This is the first of two games, exactly a week apart, against in-state foes before they begin SEC play.

UT welcomes the East Tennessee State University Buccaneers to Rocky Top Monday night. Kellie Harper’s team, which is still without Rae Burrell, comes in with a 9-1 record after losing 74-63 at home Saturday evening to the Stanford Cardinal.

Meanwhile, the ETSU Bucs come in with a 1-10 record. They have lost eight straight, most recently falling 61-48 last Thursday to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on the road. Here is all the information you need for the Tennessee Lady Vols’ Monday matchup.

Rocky Top has won 22 in a row against ETSU. They own a 24-2-1 lead in the series, dating back to 1924, and haven’t lost since before Pat Summitt took over the program in the early 1970s. In their last meeting, UT won 67-50 on Dec. 1, 2020.

ETSU is in its first year under head coach Simon Harris, who takes over after eight years under Brittney Ezell, under whom they went 10-21, 9-21 and 4-16 the past three years. Harris has a roster where eight of the 13 players are true freshmen, one is a redshirt sophomore, and the other four are juniors. The youth has been a bit too much to overcome early on this year.

After this game, the Tennessee Lady Vols will have a week off and then host the Chattanooga Mocs next Monday. They then begin SEC play by hosting the Alabama Crimson Tide the following Thursday, and their only non-conference game left after that will be the UConn Huskies Feb. 6.

Meanwhile, ETSU will next host the St. Bonaventure Bonnies Thursday. They’ll then host the Lynchburg Hornets on Sunday, Jan. 2 before beginning Southern Conference play on Thursday, Jan. 6 at the Mercer Bears.
