Playing in this year’s Music City Bowl obviously brings a ton of excitement to Tennessee football fans. They get to watch their team play in-state and enjoy the fact that Josh Heupel exceeded tons of expectations his first year by going 7-5 and getting to face an 8-4 Purdue Boilermakers team to close out the season.

UT’s recent history against the Big Ten in bowl games, having won the last four, brings even more excitement. However, what, if any, role will that play in the bets Vol fans should place for this game? Well, with kickoff coming up, it’s time to take a look at that.

Using the lines based on the WynnBET betting odds, it’s time to do our final listing of prop bets of the year for the Vols. As we have done all season, we’ll count down the three best prop bets and close with the one bet to avoid. However, let’s start with the best standard bet to make in Tennessee football’s Music City Bowl matchup.

Best standard bet: Tennessee -7.5

This line started with the Vols being favored by only four points. Then they had the first opt out, as starting cornerback Alontae Taylor won’t play in this game. However, since then, all the absences have gone against Purdue, and they have reached a level that I can safely predict the Vols will likely win this game comfortably.

Purdue is a pass-heavy offense under Jeff Brohm, but their top two receivers are out. Leading receiver David Bell, who has nearly 1,300 yards this year, opted out, and receiver Milton Wright isn’t eligible. It gets worse. Their best defensive playmaker, defensive end George Karlaftis, who has 10 tackles for a loss, has also opted out. No. 1 cornerback Dedrick Mackey is ineligible.

That makes for four key players who are out, then there is an injury to starting left tackle Greg Knox. Now, Cade Mays is hurt too, but it’s clear Purdue has taken more hits. Add in Tennessee football playing the game in Nashville, and they have too many advantages to not win easily.
