Prop bet No. 3: First half Over 34

If there’s one thing Tennessee football does, it’s score early. The Vols are at their best in the first quarter, where they average 14.1 points a game. That’s why they average 22.5 points in the first half, nearly two-thirds of the 37 points a game they average. Josh Heupel’s teams like to get a big lead early and then just cruise.

Against Purdue, they seemed more destined to do this. Now, Jeff Brohm’s team is solid at stopping offenses in the first quarter, but they aren’t great, and without their best pass rusher and their best cornerback, Hendon Hooker and co. should have a field day here.

Twice this year, UT has scored 28 points in the first quarter, and they did it in back to back games. Adding to this chaos, the Vols’ defense is at its worst in the second quarter. That means that Purdue, if it gets anything going offensively at all, will get it going in the second quarter, which is their best quarter offensively.

Simply put, there will be offense on offense on offense in the first two quarters of this game, and it should be more than enough to hit the over for the first half. As a result, this is one of the better bets you can take.
