Tennessee football: Five best prop bets vs. Purdue in Music City Bowl
Prop bet No. 2: Tennessee -4.5 first half
While the first half over/under is a solid bet, it’s better to bet on Tennessee football’s -4.5 first half spread. That’s because the over/under is based on Purdue doing what it has been doing in the second quarter offensively all season and the Vols doing what they have been doing in that same quarter defensively all season.
Given Purdue’s absences on offense, we can’t be sure that’s the case. Without their top two receivers, you have to think that some drop-off is coming, as that’s a much bigger loss for them than just Alontae Taylor being out is for the Vols.
On the other hand, it’s a safe bet the Vols will get their points. That means they’ll likely build a huge lead in the first quarter, and even if Purdue does have a solid second quarter, it won’t be nearly enough to make up for what Josh Heupel’s team already did.
We should also add that Purdue actually just plays better the whole game after the first quarter. They piecemeal their success the rest of the way, while the Vols do all their work in the first, so even if Purdue makes it closer, they won’t make it closer by halftime. As a result, UT covering this spread is a safe bet.
