Seniors coming back

Jerome Carvin (Announced on Nov. 28)

  • Offensive lineman
  • 6’5″ 318 pounds
  • Memphis, Tenn.

A four-star recruit in 2018, Jerome Carvin was a rotational player at guard or center for three years. He finally settled in full-time at left guard this year and emerged into one of the most reliable players. The day after Tennessee football beat the Vanderbilt Commodores, he confirmed he was coming back to take advantage of the COVID eligibility ruling, a huge boost.

Hendon Hooker (Announced on Dec. 12)

  • Quarterback
  • 6’4″ 218 pounds
  • Greensboro, N.C.

Obviously this was the biggest news of the bowl preparations for the Vols. Hendon Hooker became a breakout star after not initially starting the season. The Virginia Tech Hokies graduate transfer came to UT with one year in mind, but the COVID eligibility rules allowed him to have a second year, and despite being a projected NFL Draft pick, he’s coming back.

Solon Page III

  • Linebacker
  • 6’2″ 223 pounds
  • Atlanta, Ga.

After redshirting as a 2017 commitment out of Georgia, Solon Page III was a reserve over the next three years. However, he emerged into a reliable backup at linebacker in 2021, and his experience makes him valuable. Because of that and the chance to improve his stock, it’s no surprise he’s coming back for 2022.

Princeton Fant (Announced on Dec. 21)

  • Tight end
  • 6’2″ 240 pounds
  • Nashville, Tenn.

Jacob Warren confirmed he was coming back first, but Princeton Fant did that the next day. Another player who redshirted in 2017, Fant became a key player for Tennessee football late in 2020 and is clearly a reliable tight end, so his return helps with the depth there.

Trevon Flowers  (Announced on Jan. 4)

  • Defensive back
  • 5’11” 200 pounds
  • Atlanta, Ga.

Another commit out of Georgia in 2018, Trevon Flowers immediately became a contributor under Jeremy Pruitt that year. He started in 2019 before suffering a season-ending injury halfway through, resumed that role in 2020 while trying to get healthy and broke out this year. His decision to come back is a huge deal and should make the Vols elite at safety in 2022.
