With their first top five ranking, in at least one poll, of the Kellie Harper era, and coming off a dominant win over a very good Ole Miss Rebels team, the Tennessee Lady Vols remain on the road for another intriguing SEC matchup. This time, they will take on an in-state rival.

UT heads to the middle of the state to face the Vanderbilt Commodores. Coming off a 70-63 loss to the Mississippi State Bulldogs on the road, first-year head coach Shea Ralph will be looking to get her team back above .500 in SEC play.

Ranked No. 5 in the AP Poll and No. 6 in the Coaches Poll, Rocky Top is looking to remain the only undefeated team in the conference. Here is all the information you need for the Tennessee Lady Vols’ road matchup that could be a tough one.

Broadcast info

Ralph took over Vandy for Stephanie White after 14 years as an assistant under Geno Auriemma with the UConn Huskies. White never had a winning season at Vandy, and last year’s team cut the year short after a 4-4 start due to COVID. The school and White then parted ways.

Given the situation, Vandy lost leading scorer Koi Love. However, the return of Brinae Alexander, Jordyn Cambridge, Demi Washington and Kaylon Smith combined with a recruiting class that included highly touted prospects Sacha Washington, De’Mauri Flournoy and Iyana Moore has given Ralph enough to work with early on.

Vanderbilt was 5-5 before Brylee Bartram entered the transfer portal, but they’ve only gelled more and gotten better, as they had won five straight after that entry before that loss to MSU. As a result, they are a dangerous team that UT needs to be aware of.

On the other side, Rocky Top continues to get more and more healthy, but given the success of the team, Harper indicated her plans to keep Rae Burrell coming off the bench for now. Burrell still sees a lot of action and is probably the team’s best player, but this move allows the team to have some scoring punch with that unit.

After this game, the Tennessee Lady Vols return home for a tough matchup Sunday against the Kentucky Wildcats. Vanderbilt, meanwhile, continues its rough stretch run with a visit to the LSU Tigers, who are red-hot right now, that same day.
