Tennessee football: Ranking transfers by performance in 2021
Previous school: Kansas Jayhawks
Even though defensive line was a perceived strength for Tennessee football heading into the season, Josh Heupel wanted to add depth there. That was a smart move as the tempo UT tries to run would keep that unit tired, so Tim Banks and Rodney Garner needed lots of guys to work with. One of those guys could be a huge asset for their future.
Just like multiple other guys on this list, Da’Jon Terry joined the Vols in May, after spring ball. He had played in seven games with the Kansas Jayhawks the year before and registered two sacks, but the Les Miles drama resulted in many players leaving the program, him included.
UT didn’t start Terry this year, but they made him a rotational player, and he was extremely valuable in the process. Terry played in 12 games this past year and came away with two and a half tackles for a loss, a sack and 19 overall tackles, 11 of which were solo.
At 6’4″ 325 pounds, Terry definitely brought a solid amount of size to the position. With Matthew Butler and Ja’Quain Blakely both gone now, and with the futures of LaTrell Bumphus and Aubrey Solomon up in the air, Terry could take on a huge role this year. Either way, he was valuable in 2021 and showed what he can bring to the table going forward.
