Coming off a huge win over the LSU Tigers this past weekend, Tennessee basketball takes the court again Wednesday night after getting back into the top 20 of both polls. The Vols will host the Florida Gators, their final matchup before this weekend’s SEC-Big 12 Challenge.

Mike White’s team heads to Rocky Top on a short rest, as they faced the Ole Miss Rebels on the road in a make-up game Monday night, losing 70-54 in the process. That loss snapped a three-game winning streak they had in the conference.

On the other side, Tennessee basketball’s 64-50 win over LSU was its third win over a team that was ranked in the top 25 when the two faced off this year and its second over a team currently in the top 25. UT is now ranked No. 18 in the AP Poll and No. 20 in the Coaches Poll. Here is all the information you need for the Vols’ matchup.

Florida has played in the last four NCAA Tournaments, and it would have been the last five had COVID not canceled the 2020 Big Dance. Although they reached the top 15 after a 6-0 start, they then lost three of four to unranked teams, and then they lost their first three SEC games to the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers and LSU Tigers, all ranked teams.

Three starters back plus the additions of Kansas City Roos transfer Brandon McKissic Penn State Nittany Lions transfer Myreon Jones and Charleston Southern Buccaneers transfer Phlandrous Fleming Jr. have kept the team competitive. However, as has been a staple of White-led teams, inconsistency has plagued them.

On the other hand, UT is about to play its first game above .500 in SEC play all year. Despite Florida’s struggles, they are still dangerous, and the Vols can’t take them lightly. After this matchup, they’ll visit the Texas Longhorns Saturday, and Florida will host the Oklahoma State Cowboys the same day.

Prediction

This is Florida’s third game in five days. As a result, Rocky Top should have its way with them especially with the way they have played in their new lineup, as Uros Plavsic has replaced John Fulkerson as the starting center. Plavsic has a tough test with Colin Castleton. UT shoots and rebounds slightly better and also has Santiago Vescovi and Kennedy Chandler.

That combined with them playing at home and UF being tired is why you should take Tennessee basketball -9.5 on the spread. Florida’s fatigue on defense is why UT will score at will, allowing this game to hit the Over 131. The score will look something like this: Tennessee 79 Florida 65.
