After coming back from down 51-35 to tie it up and then lose on a free throw due to a foul call that wasn’t a foul at Rick Barnes’ former team, the Texas Longhorns, Tennessee basketball is back home to face another team from Texas. The Vols resume SEC play Tuesday as well.

Ranked No. 22 in the AP Poll and No. 20 in the Coaches Poll, UT welcomes the Texas A&M Aggies to Rocky Top. The Vols will be looking to continue a three-game winning streak in SEC play despite what happened in the SEC/Big 12 challenge over the weekend.

In their third year under head coach Buzz Williams, A&M comes into this matchup on a four-game losing streak, having most recently lost to the South Carolina Gamecocks at home last Saturday. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee basketball’s Tuesday night tipoff.

  • Moneyline: Tennessee -650; Texas A&M +470

Coming off an 8-10 season last year, Williams seemed to have A&M rolling earlier in the season. The return two rotational players, most notably Quenton Jackson, the addition of three transfers, most notably Duke Blue Devils transfer Henry Coleman III and the addition of three recruits has allowed them to improve and offset the loss of last year’s leading scorer, Emanuel Miller.

Their losing streak didn’t look that bad until Saturday. Before that, their losses were to the Kentucky Wildcats at home and then the Arkansas Razorbacks and LSU Tigers on the road. There’s no shame in any of those losses, and it’s why UT needs to be careful here.

Barnes’ team appears to have major issues offensively, which showed against Texas, but they have nothing to be ashamed of with that loss. After all, they played a top 25 caliber team in their house and loss by one point off a bad call. Rebounding from that should be easy.

Prediction

Three straight games of underwhelming offensive play means Tennessee basketball is likely to struggle in this one. They looked awful in their last home win, failing to cover in a bad way. As a result, it’s hard to have faith in them covering this spread.

Rocky Top will win, but take Texas A&M +11 on the spread. They only give up 64.4 points a game, so take the Under 131.5 as well. The whole line is based on a concept that the Vols will score a lot, and nothing suggests that will be the case given what they’ve seen. They’ll win, but the score will look something like this: Tennessee 60 Texas A&M 53.
