3. Blaine Hipa

Quarterback; 6’2″ 196 pounds

Hendon Hooker is returning, Joe Milton III will be on the roster for at least another two years, Tayven Jackson has committed, and Navy Shuler has transferred. Tennessee football is loaded at quarterback this year, and heading into 2023, they could have a wide open and pretty deep race.

If Milton wins the starting job in 2023, though, then Josh Heupel will have to open up the competition again to replace him in 2024. At that point, it would come down to Shuler and Jackson based on who he has committed right now. Heupel and Alex Golesh need to add more signal callers to insure healthy competition by that point.

Blaine Hipa is an under the radar prospect who could fit the bill. A product of Chandler High School in Maricopa County, Ariz., Hipa is a three-star on 247Sports and On3. He is reportedly, according to On3, down to the Vols and the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. The pro-style quarterback is initially from Hawaii, in Ewa Beach, which is just outside of Honolulu.

Now playing in Arizona, Hipa has had the Vols’ attention since Jeremy Pruitt and Jim Chaney were recruiting. It doesn’t seem as if Heupel has targeted him as heavily, but he could always use extra quarterbacks, so keep an eye on him National Signing Day.
