Tennessee football: Five prospects to watch on 2022 National Signing Day
1. Ahmad Moten
Defensive lineman; 6’3″-6’4″ 290 pounds
Nobody is more high-profile and will be more difficult for Tennessee football to land on National Signing Day than Ahmad Moten. However, Josh Heupel brought in Rodney Garner for a reason, and he and Tim Banks need to shoot for the stars.
Ahmad Moten is a pure defensive tackle who could immediately be a contributor. A four-star on Rvials and On3 but a three-star on 247Sports, Moten comes out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and attends Cardinal Gibbons High School. Although it’s South Florida, Heupel’s connections to that state have to help him here.
Rocky Top has already shown an ability to land surprisingly elite defensive tackles on signing day deadlines. They flipped Georgia Bulldogs defensive tackle Tyre West, a four-star across the board, on the first day of the Early Signing Period. UT is in the Broward County prospect’s top five.
Taking that into account, the Vols could have the same luck with Moten, but it will be more difficult. The Miami Hurricanes are a unanimous favorite on the Rivals Future Cast and a majority favorite on the 247Sports to land him. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma Sooners are second on 247Sports and a plurality favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast and On3.
However, Tennessee football has some advantages that could be flying under the radar. Given the attrition coming up on the line, Moten could make an immediate impact on Rocky Top, so don’t count him out just yet. He’d definitely be Heupel’s biggest pickup on National Signing Day.
