3. Jimmy Rolder

Linebacker; Chicago, Ill.

Nobody doubts that linebacker is a key position of need for Tennessee football. Solon Page III, Jeremy Banks and Aaron Beasley overachieved there last year, but there were still some issues. Although there are other players who should help with that, mostly the likely return of Juwan Mitchell from injury, Josh Heupel could use some help here.

Well, he’s got an advantage. Last year, Heupel added a transfer linebacker from Michigan in William Mohan, who joined two Michigan transfers, the other being Joe Milton III. That gives him a connection. Meanwhile, he did build connections during his two years with the Missouri Tigers, where he recruited the state of Illinois.

As a result, the Vols should target Jimmy Rolder heavily. Standing at 6’2″ and weighing in the range of 220 to 230 pounds, Rolder is a four-star across the board out of Marist High School in the Mount Greenwood area of Cook County. He’d be an elite addition.

Solon Page III, Aaron Beasley and Jeremy Banks bring experience to linebacker. Mohan and Aaron Willis brings potential. Mitchell brings both. Rolder could be the future at the position, though, and the Vols could steal him now. It’s not clear they could get him, but it’s worth a shot.
