Tennessee football: Five Auburn signees Vols should target amid Bryan Harsin saga
5. Tre Donaldson
Defensive back; Tallahassee, Fla.
Although Tennessee football was never in contention for Tre Donaldson, his profile as a two-sport athlete makes him a guy they should still go after. The graduate of Florida State University School is listed as a safety and a point guard across the board.
Standing between 6’0″ and 6’2″ while weighing in the range of 188 to 192 pounds, Donaldson as a football player is a three-star on On3 and 247Sports but a four-star on Rivals and ESPN. He is also a four-star on the 247Sports Composite ratings and the On3 Consensus ratings, so he’s a legit prospect who would be a huge get for the Vols.
In basketball, Donaldson is a three-star on Rivals but a four-star on 247Sports and ESPN. He is a three-star on the 247Sports Composite. Still, his size gives him a huge advantage at point guard, and Rick Barnes’ track record at developing such players could also help. Stealing a recruit from Bruce Pearl would make some UT fans very happy.
Josh Heupel’s connections to the state of Florida could be of some benefit here. Donaldson committed to Auburn back in August, making him similar to Damari Alston since it wasn’t clear what Heupel was building at UT yet. If he enters the portal, the Vols would be much more in play. They will also need safety help desperately after this year, so he fits a need.
