The most historic rivalry in women’s college basketball, despite its 12-year dormancy, will add another chapter Sunday afternoon. This time, though, in a rarity, both the Tennessee Lady Vols and UConn Huskies enter the game somewhat desperately looking for a win.

Kellie Harper’s team travels to Connecticut to face Geno Auriemma’s squad, which isn’t having the typical year you would expect for a team coached by him. UConn has won five straight, but they’ve had two games, including their most recent scheduled matchup, canceled during that run.

Meanwhile, the Tennessee Lady Vols are coming off their second worst loss ever in the Harper era, falling to the Florida Gators on the road Thursday 84-59. UT is ranked No. 7 in both polls, and UConn is ranked No. 10 in the AP Poll and No. 9 in the Coaches Poll. Here is all the information you need for this matchup.

This is the third meeting between these two teams since the rivalry resumed. UConn has won the previous two and leads the all-time series 15-9. The Lady Vols had won three straight from 2005 to 2007 before Pat Summitt ended the series.

What’s plaguing both teams right now are key injuries. Rocky Top had reached the top five just two weeks ago, but ever since losing Keyen Green for the season they have struggled. The Florida loss came a week after their loss at the Auburn Tigers, the worst team in the SEC.

In between those games, UT needed a 13-point comeback to beat the Arkansas Razorbacks in overtime. That win only came after Arkansas lost leading scorer Makayla Daniels in the second quarter. Without Green, Harper hasn’t found enough post depth, and that’s put a greater burden on everybody, particularly Tamari Key and Alexus Dye.

Obviously, injuries have plagued the Lady Vols all year. Before Green’s season-ending injury, they spent a month and a half without Rae Burrell, their best player. Burrell got hurt in the opener, which Jordan Horston had to miss due to injury. Returning starter Marta Suárez was lost for the year in preseason due to injury.

On the other side, UConn has been battling the same issue. Five of their players averaging at least 20 minutes a game have missed time due to injury. However, with Dorka Juhász set to return in this game and come off the bench, they are much more at full strength than they have been.

Next. Lady Vols' all-time team. dark

UT will face former Lady Vol Evina Westbrook in this game, who made comments that could be partially blamed for why Holly Warlick was fired before she herself left to join UConn. After this matchup, the Tennessee Lady Vols will resume SEC play Thursday with a visit from the Missouri Tigers. UConn resumes Big East play Wednesday with a visit from the Villanova Wildcats.
