Nobody was missed by Tennessee football more than linebackers. Quavaris Crouch didn’t get the same hype other guys got for the Vols at UT, but he was one of the few guys who could play on the inside and the outside. He also left after Jeremy Pruitt was fired and before Josh Heupel was fired, putting him in that camp of transfers who make you raise your eyebrows.

Despite that, Crouch clearly made the right decision transferring to Mel Tucker and the Michigan State Spartans. Remember, Tucker runs the same schemes defensively that Pruitt did, so it was easy to fit right into the system, a place he would be with three years of eligibility left.

Well, in his first year, Crouch proved his value. He was fifth on the team in tackles and did a little bit of everything. It was by far more productive than any year he had on Rocky Top, and he’s a hure reason Michigan State won 11 games and finished the year in the top 10.

Arguably Crouch’s best game came in MSU’s biggest win, as he had 13 tackles against the Michigan Wolverines, which were tied for the most he had all year. Meanwhile, he had seven solo tackles in that game, more than he had in any other game that year. By the way, this was all as a rotational backup. He should start next year, and that could turn him into a superstar.
