27. 892. Pick Analysis. Jim L. Mora. Randy Edsall. player. Scouting Report. UConn Huskies

Previous role: Offensive assistant, Connecticut Huskies

Yes, the former head coach of the UCLA Bruins, Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons is now taking over the UConn Huskies. Jim L. Mora was out of football for four years after being fired by UCLA but then accepted a role as an offensive assistant under Randy Edsall in 2021.

Despite building UConn up from an FCS team to a BCS team, Edsall couldn’t recreate the magic in his second stint after being fired by the Maryland Terrapins. UConn canceled all of 2020 due to COVID, and Edsall retired early after an 0-2 start in 2021, which would have been his fourth season and fifth year on the job.

Lou Spanos finished the year for UConn, and Mora then took over in the offseason. Honestly, this hire has no impact at all on Tennessee football. None of these coaches have any connection to the Vols, and UConn is not in any way close to UT.

Add in the fact that this team is no longer in the American Athletic Conference, which is a step below the AAC and could have provided some competition to the Vols, and there’s nothing this program could do outside of hiring people connected to UT or UT rivals that would actually affect UT. Unlike in women’s basketball, this Independent program is of no relevance to Rocky Top.
