3. Carnell Tate – Wide receiver

Bradenton, Fla. (IMG Academy)

Florida prospects from IMG Academy are always worth targeting for Tennessee football, and Josh Heupel’s connections to the state as the former head coach of the UCF Knights makes them even more worth targeting. Given the offensive system he runs, wide receivers from the famous school in Manatee County could have a perfect pipeline to UT.

Welcome to Carnell Tate. Building off our first slide, the Vols don’t necessarily have a need at wide receiver. However, more competition will be key with Tillman gone after this year, and even this year, they will have open competition for their slot receiver and No. 2 wideout.

Don’t forget that Ramel Keyton will also be a senior this year, and if he steals one of those roles, he could be gone after 2022 as well. Simply put, UT should keep adding depth there. Carnell Tate is the perfect player to bring the proper amount of competition, and he could even win the job early.

Raw talent is what makes this kid stand out. Standing at 6’2″ and weighing in the range of 170 to 185 pounds, Tate is a five-star on Rivals and a four-star everywhere else. Given his potential and Heupel’s system, the two could become a perfect, unstoppable match in the future. That makes him worth targeting.
