Coming from the same school in Georgia’s Houston County that Marquez Callaway came out of, Vic Burley is another hybrid player who could be an edge rusher on this list. However, his hybrid role leans more towards playing defensive line, and that’s a huge need Tennessee football has already, so combined with his talent, he tops the list.

Tim Banks’ system requires a couple of players who can play defensive tackle or on the edge. Caleb Tremblay and Ja’Quain Blakely had that role this past year, but both are gone. Although he added Jayson Jenkins on the recruiting trail, that wasn’t enough, and he needed to bring in more.

Well, he could do that next year. A guy like Burley would go a long way towards addressing this issue. Standing between 6’4″ and 6’5, Burley is a four-star across the board but actually a five-staton the 247Sports Composite. He weighs in the range of 265 to 280 pounds.

Listed as a strongside defensive end on Rivals, a defensive tackle on ESPN and a defensive lineman on 247Sports and On3, it’s pretty clear that Burley will play up on the line. Given his potential and the need he fills, he’s a crucial target for Tennessee football. The Vols have always relied on Georgia for talent, and they did so heavily in 2022. They need to do it again here.
