Coming off a 10-point loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks on the road this past Saturday, Tennessee basketball will head directly north to visit another SEC foe representing a state on its western border. It begins the week of Vols facing former head coaches.

UT will take on the Missouri Tigers and former head coach Cuonzo Martin. Following that, they’ll face the Auburn Tigers on Saturday and the person Martin directly succeeded on Rocky Top, Bruce Pearl. They’ll do so with huge SEC implications.

Mizzou comes into this outing on a three-game losing streak, having lost two in a row to the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday and then Sunday. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee basketball’s matchup.

Although Martin’s team is struggling this year, and although he’s on a really hot seat, Mizzou has shown they’re capable of being competitive. They only lost by two the second time to MSU, they swept the Ole Miss Rebels, and they have a road win over the Texas A&M Aggies.

Given the fact that the Vols haven’t always looked pretty in their wins, particularly against mediocre foes, this could be a trap game. After all, it falls right in between three huge games against ranked teams, two of which they have already played.

Currently, Rick Barnes’ team, ranked No. 17 in both polls, is tied for third in the SEC with the Hogs, but they are just two games behind Auburn, who is in first, so with those two set to face off Saturday, this is very much a race for the regular season title. However, they have to make sure they handle the Tigers first.

Prediction

Martin’s focus on defense has always been his calling card, and what’s plagued him this year is it hasn’t been there. Mizzou has been allowing opponents to score over 70 points a game. However, his offense is still a disaster, barely averaging over 65 points a game.

We don’t know how good Tennessee basketball’s offense will be any given night, but their defense always brings it. As a result, it’s a safe bet that Missouri doesn’t hit 60. Because of that, the Under 130 is your best bet. The line is tough, but Tennessee -11 is probably fine because they just won’t let Mizzou score. The final score will look something like this: Tennessee 65 Missouri 51.
