When it comes to continuity, Anthony Tucker has plenty of experience working with Josh Heupel. He was Heupel’s running backs coach, passing game coordinator and eventually co-offensive coordinator with the UCF Knights during Heupel’s three years there. Tucker wouldn’t have any learning curve joining Tennessee football.

Although his last stint coaching receivers was 2013 with the Arkansas State Red Wolves, his experience in the passing game specifically since then still makes him valuable. Both of his coordinator hats required that he work with the receivers under Heupel. Meanwhile, he coached quarterbacks in addition to his OC role with the Utah State Aggies in 2021.

As a result, Tucker is pretty experienced across the board on offense. He also helps strengthen UT’s recruiting in the Florida area while also improving their standing in Arkansas, the mountain west region and the DMV, as he spent two years on D.J. Durkin’s staff with the Maryland Terrapins.

There’s a reason Utah State brought in Tucker this past year to hold the same positions Heupel had when he resurrected his career at Utah Sate in 2015. Despite his lack of SEC ties, Tucker brings a lot to the table for Tennessee football, and it’s enough to say that his hire would be solid.
