Tennessee football: Ranking 15 options to replace Kodi Burns as Vols WR coach
Years at current position: 6 (3 as quality control coach)
Why not promote an off-field assistant to the position. Keenan Bailey has been with the Ohio State Buckeyes for six years, and the past three years, he has served as their quality control coach. Adding a guy like him, who brings a ton of youthful energy, may create a legitimate splash for Josh Heupel and Tennessee football.
In September of 2020, Bailey was named one of the top 30 coaches under 30 years old by Chris Hummer of 247Sports. He was just 25 years old at the time. A graduate of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Bailey has experience working in all different aspects of the passing game.
Working under Ryan Day and Brian Kelly has given Bailey an understanding of different forms of the spread offense, which makes him a great candidate to work under Heupel’s air raid and spread combination. As a result, he’s a guy the Vols should target immediately.
Building deeper recruiting connections into the state of Ohio has been a necessity for Rocky Top for a while now, and Bailey helps with exactly that. He appears to be a rising star and a great fit, so he would be a solid pickup. Lack of experience is the one thing keeping him so far down here on this list.
