Defensive back is a need for Tennessee football based on lack of proven bodies. However, on the defensive line, it’s a need based on lack of bodies. This is the one position where Josh Heupel should use the transfer portal to even build for the future, as if he was recruiting for it.

Well, once again, he’s got a Florida kid he can target, so he’s got connections here. Marquis Robinson committed to the Auburn Tigers out of Milton High School in Santa Rosa County, Fla., which is on the Panhandle of the state. More importantly, though, is that getting Robinson is a recruiting victory for UT over Bryan Harsin, who has become competition for them.

Robinson was one of the people who liked fellow defensive tackle Lee Hunter’s Instagram post trashing the way Harsin treated his players. Hunter recently transferred from Auburn to UCF, so between Heupel, Gus Malzahn and Auburn, this connection between schools is getting insane.

Anyway, at 6’3″ 310 pounds, Robinson would also fill the need of the pure defensive tackle for the Vols. Last year, he only appeared in one game, so he has all four years of eligibility left. Given Tennessee football’s situation, that’s exactly what they need at defensive tackle. He’s visited Rocky Top too, so don’t be surprised if that’s where he ends up.
