As mentioned on the opening slide, Tennessee football has a need at cornerback. Sure, Kamal Hadden could step in with the departure of Alontae Taylor, but we saw Hadden and Warren Burrell starting together in the Music City Bowl against the Purdue Boilermakers, and overall, it didn’t work out to well.

Those two may be fine, but the Vols probably need more immediate help now. Well, Sevyn Banks is now out there, and he has a direct connection to Heupel. Banks is from Orlando, Fla., right where Heupel coached for three years with the UCF Knights.

UT is also looking at an elite prospect here, as Banks initially entered the pros before deciding to come back and enter the transfer portal. He’s got four years of experience with one year of eligibility remaining. The 6’1″ 200-pound product of Orange County’s Jones High School is an elite talent when fully health.

Banks hasn’t racked up tons of stats at Ohio State, but that seems to be more about him shutting down his side of the field for a while. After all, he was All Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2020 and a preseason All-American before dealing with injuries all year in 2021. With one more year fully healthy, he could be a huge boost to a team like the Vols.
