Sticking at defensive back, it’s time to return to the nickel spot. There aren’t too many Group of Five prospects who would warrant this much consideration for Tennessee football in the transfer portal, but it seems as if nickel is where they come from. Also, Enock Makonzo has a unique amount of experience here.

At 5’11” 195 pounds, Makonzo comes from LaChine, Quebec, Canada, and went to  CEGEP Du Vieux Montreal for high school. Before heading to Coastal Carolina to play for East Tennessee native Jamey Chadwell, he spent two years at the New Mexico Military Institute in 2017 and 2018

Now, Makonzo has one year of eligibility left. At 5’11” 195 pounds, he’s actually spent the past two years at linebacker, but he spent the previous year at safety, and he plays the spur position, which is a nickel/linebacker hybrid. As Theo Jackson showed this past year, Tim Banks requires certain linebacker abilities from his nickels, so that’s a good thing for the Vols.

Over the past two years, Makonzo has 19.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, a pass deflection and 143 tackles, 76 of which were solo. He definitely has more of a linebacker profile with his production, but he’d probably make the transition fine with Tennessee football.
