Sticking with players who have in-state connections to fill needs for Tennessee football, Quincy Riley is another Group of Five defensive back the Vols could stand to add. However, Riley is a potential rising star given what he did last year, and UT is right to target him heavily. He could become their best playmaker this year.

Last year, Riley had four and a half tackles for a loss, one and a half sacks, nine pass deflections and 33 tackles, 24 of which were solo. Most notably, though, he had five interceptions. In fact, over the past 15 games dating back to 2020, he has seven interceptions. That lead the Conference USA, and he did indeed earn First Team All-C-USA.

One huge benefit to adding Riley is that he’s not only proven, but he’s also got three years of eligibility left. He joined the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders in 2019 and redshirted that year, and 2020 didn’t count against his eligibility, so he could be with any team until 2024.

The 6’0″ 181-pound graduate of Flora High School in South Carolina’s Richland County would make an immediate impact for the Vols. After adding Tiyon Evans last year, they could really stick it to the hearts of the Gamecock faithful in Columbia, S.C., which Riley’s hometown, by adding him this year.
