Coming off an 11-1 midweek win in its home opener against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, Tennessee softball remains at home for another weekend event that is set to begin on Friday. Karen Weekly’s Lady Vols hosts annual Tennessee Invitational.

Ranked No. 17 in the nation with a 10-6 record after two extra inning losses last weekend, UT welcomes three other teams to the event. The Dartmouth Big Green come in at 2-3, the South Alabama Jaguars come in at 4-10 and the Virginia Cavaliers come in at 9-7.

All four teams will play each other, making for four games Friday and two on Saturday. Then, the rest of Saturday and into Sunday, the teams will play in a single-elimination tournament and be seeded based on their record in their own three games. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee softball’s matchup.

This is the second tournament style event Tennessee softball is taking part in. The Lady Vols opened the season at the Felsberg Invitational, winning their first four games. However, they weren’t able to officially win the championship game against the Maryland Terrapins, as it was rained out.

Ever since that weekend, the schedule has gotten rough for Rocky Top, and the record has reflected that. However, last week, they lost to the Oklahoma Sooners and UCLA Bruins, then ranked No. 1 and No. 6 respectively, both by one in extra innings. They’ll be looking to right the ship this weekend.

Following this event, Tennessee softball will host the Austin Peay Governors in a Tuesday afternoon midweek matchup. After that, they’ll begin SEC play next weekend with a trip to the Missouri Tigers for a three-game series.
