Coming off a midweek two-game series sweep of the James Madison Dukes in which they tied a program record for home runs in their second game, Tennessee baseball remains at home for a three-game series this weekend. The Vols welcome the Rhode Island Rams to Rocky Top.

Tony Vitello’s team, ranked anywhere between No. 11 and No. 3 across different outlets, won two of three in its first major test last week. At the 2022 Shriners Children’s College Classic in Houston, they lost to the Texas Longhorns, who were No. 1 at the time, but beat the Baylor Bears and Oklahoma Sooners.

While UT was competing at Minute Maid Park, Rhode Island faced the Auburn Tigers on a road in a four-game series last weekend. They were swept. Here is all the information you need to know for Tennessee baseball’s matchup, which starts with a doubleheader Friday.

With a 12-1 record, the Vols have been carried by power. Home runs and fastballs from their pitchers, including reliever Ben Joyce throwing consistently over 100 mph, is the story of this team so far, and they’ll look to continue that in this matchup.

Rhode Island comes in at 0-10 after last week’s sweep against Auburn, but all of their games have been on the road. They lost three to the South Alabama Jaguars and three to open the season to the William and Mary Tribe.

After this series, Tennessee baseball remains at home for a midweek matchup against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels Tuesday. They will then begin SEC play next Friday at home with a three-game series against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Rhode Island will next face the Sacred Heart Pioneers for their home opener in a midweek matchup next Wednesday.
