Tennessee Lady Vols’ road to Final Four in the 2022 NCAA Tournament
Potential Elite Eight matchups Part II
No. 10 seed South Dakota Coyotes (27-5)
If Ole Miss is to recapture the magic of 2007, it first has to get past a dangerous South Dakota Coyotes team that that won its second straight Summit League title under sixth-year head coach Dawn Plitzuweit. This could be the year South Dakota gets that elusive NCAA Tourney win. The Tennessee Lady Vols still likely won’t face them, but it’s possible.
No. 11 seed Villanova Wildcats (23-8)
Second-year head coach Denise Dillon has the Villanova Wildcats as a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament. To face UT if UT makes the Elite Eight, they’d have to upset BYU and then likely Michigan and Baylor. That’s a brutal path, but we’ve seen crazy things happen.
No. 14 seed American Eagles (23-8)
Ninth-year head coach Megan Gebbia will be coaching in her third NCAA Tournament with the American Eagles after winning the Patriot League Tournament. They still haven’t won a tourney game yet, and it’ll be tough against Michigan. Even if they pull off the upset, it’s hard to see them getting all the way to the Elite Eight, so UT likely won’t have to worry about them.
No. 15 seed Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine (20-9)
Probably the least likely team Rocky Top will face, along with Albany, the Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine are champions of the Big West and will play in their first NCAA Tournament since 2016 under 10th-year head coach Laura Beeman. However, beating Baylor seems impossible, so making it all the way to the Elite Eight is almost certainly not going to happen.
This page obviously includes teams you can bet almost everything the Tennessee Lady Vols won’t see. However, they were upset at home in the second round of last year, so before talking about the Elite Eight or Sweet 16 or trying to reach the Final Four, their only focus should be on what is a brutal slate in their first two rounds.
