March Madness continues to be all the rage this week, as the first two play-in games took place Tuesday night. However, the Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team doesn’t play until Thursday, and the women’s basketball team doesn’t play until Saturday. All the information about their seeding is already out there.

As a result, while we’ll have plenty of stories on that throughout the next couple days, our morning update on Rocky Top doesn’t have anything from it. There were no new developments on the basketball front from Tuesday to Wednesday, so there was no reason to bring it up.

Instead, there are recaps of midweek games on the diamond in baseball and softball, both of which turned out well for the program. We’ve also got a preview of another NCAA postseason event set to begin Wednesday in women’s swimming and diving. So, no pun intended, let’s dive into the Tennessee Vols news of the day.

Baseball beats Eastern Kentucky with power – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

Coming off a sweep of the Rhode Island Rams this past weekend and in their final matchup before the start of SEC play this weekend, the Tennessee Vols baseball team beat the Eastern Kentucky Colonels 7-1. All of UT’s runs were generated by homers, six of which came from two homers by Trey Lipscomb. Christian Moore also hit a homer, and Joel Ortega went 2-of-4. UT is now 16-1.

"Sophomore left-hander Zander Sechrist earned the win on the mound with another strong midweek start, allowing only one hit while striking out seven and walking only one in five innings. Four Tennessee relievers worked a hitless inning apiece, making it a one-hit, 13-strikeout, two-walk evening for the Vols on the mound."

Softball beats Memphis in Midstate Classic – UTSports

On the heels of a huge doubleheader sweep over the Missouri Tigers to open SEC season Sunday, the Tennessee Lady Vols softball team continued its red-hot play in Columbia, Tenn., Tuesday. Karen Weekly’s team beat the Memphis Tigers to improve to 19-6 overall.

"Senior left fielder Amanda Ayala was the catalyst for Tennessee offensively, hitting 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to help UT pick up its 10th straight win Tuesday night at the Ridley Sports Complex in Columbia, Tennessee.Graduate pitcher Erin Edmoundson tossed six scoreless innings of relief and claimed her third win in as many games for the Big Orange."
