Coming off a midweek win over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels and a week removed from a series sweep over the Rhode Island Rams, Tennessee baseball is set to begin SEC play. Now the fun for the program is really about to start.

Tony Vitello’s team, ranked anywhere from No. 9 to No. 2, welcomes the South Carolina Gamecocks to Rocky Top for a three-game series this weekend. UT comes in on an eight-game winning streak dating back to the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic in Houston.

South Carolina, meanwhile, had a rough start but comes in red-hot on a three-game winning streak. That includes a series win over the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns last weekend. Here is all the information you need for Tennessee baseball’s matchup.

Broadcast information

If you take away a five-game losing streak by South Carolina that included being swept by the Clemson Tigers and then losing to the Xavier Musketeers, this looks like a top five caliber team. As a result, the Vols can’t take them lightly.

It’s telling that Rocky Top’s only loss on the year is to that same Texas team South Carolina took two of three from. After beating Texas twice last weekend, they beat the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs 12-0 Tuesday, so they’re on a roll.

On the mound for the Vols will likely be Chase Burns Friday. Noah Hall should start for South Carolina. Chase Dollander and Drew Beam are likely to start Saturday and Sunday respectively for UT while Will Sanders and Matthew Becker are likely to start those days for South Carolina.

After this series, Tennessee baseball has a midweek matchup with the Butler Bulldogs Tuesday and will then travel to Oxford, Miss., to take on the Ole Miss Rebels in a three-game series next weekend. South Carolina will next visit The Citadel Bulldogs Tuesday before their SEC home opening series next Thursday through Saturday against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
