Two days after beating the Buffalo Bulls 80-67 in their first March Madness matchup of 2022, the Tennessee Lady Vols will now attempt to reach the Sweet 16. In the process, not only will they be playing at home, but they’ll be facing a team from right up the road within the state.
Kellie Harper’s No. 4 seed team hosts the No. 12 seed Belmont Bruins out of Nashville. The small Davidson County, Tenn., school upset the No. 5 seed Oregon Ducks 73-70 in the NCAA Tournament Round of 64 on Saturday.
Led by fifth-year head coach Bart Brooks, Belmont comes into this matchup on a 13-game winning streak after winning the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament for the sixth straight year it was played. Here is all the information you need for this March Madness showdown.

The Tennessee Lady Vols will be looking to get back to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2016, when they reached the Elite Eight. They are still banged up without Keyen Green and likely without Jordan Horston, but that would be a huge accomplishment, and Belmont’s upset is a golden opportunity for them to do so.
On the other side, Belmont is looking to reach its first Sweet 16. Despite their recent history of reaching the Big Dance, Saturday was just the second time they ever won an NCAA Tournament game. They are 2-6 all time in the Big Dance.
Last year, Rocky Top was favored to reach the Sweet 16 but was upset in the second round by the Michigan Wolverines, who seem to always give UT trouble on the court regardless of the sport. They’ll obviously be looking to make up for that this time.
Whichever team wins this game will advance to face the No. 1 seed Louisville Cardinals in Wichita next Saturday. Led by 15th-year head coach Jeff Walz, Louisville won its second round March Madness game against the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Sunday.
