player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Defensive back. Desmond Williams. 839. Junior. 4

5’11” 190 pounds

Initially a Georgia kid out of Monroe County, Desmond Williams comes to Tennessee football after two years of Junior College in Mississippi. The graduate of Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, Ga., and Newton County’s East Central Community College in Decatur, Miss., was brought in as another cornerback to offset the losses of Alontae Taylor, Kenneth George Jr. and Theo Jackson.

Williams will have two years of eligibility remaining, and his experience gives him a chance to make an immediate impact. However, given the current situation, he effectively has to make that impact in the spring. Burrell and Kamal Hadden enter as the projected starters. De’Shawn Rucker was a backup last year. Brandon Turnage is the projected starter at nickel.

All four players are out this spring due to injury. When you add in Wesley Walker, who we acknowledged is transferring from Georgia Tech but won’t arrive until the summer, Williams is the only potential rotational cornerback with a chance to showcase his skills this spring.

As a result, Williams has to stand out as much as possible. Those other guys will get more looks in August given how limited they were in the spring. The good news for Williams is that he has multiple roles he could play. Nickel and one of the cornerback spots are there for him. He just has to win one this spring.
