Tennessee football: 10 Vols who need a good spring practice in 2022

Linebacker was an even greater concern for Tennessee football heading into last year. Josh Heupel added Juwan Mitchell as a Texas Longhorns transfer and former junior college kid in Kansas with the expectation of just plugging him in. However, things never took off for the New Jersey kid.

The graduate of Essex County’s Mater Dei High School in Newark, N.J., and Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan., saw action against the Bowling Green Falcons, Pittsburgh Panthers and Florida Gators. However, by October, he was out for the season due to an injury. Now, Mitchell is back and trying to reclaim his spot.

However, as mentioned when it came to Aaron Beasley, Mitchell has to deal with the same issues at the position, including William Mohan and Kalib Perry set to join the roster in the fall. Unlike Beasley, he wasn’t able to showcase his skills actually on the field last year due to his injuries.

As a result, Mitchell is lucky to be back for the spring, and he needs to take advantage of every opportunity he gets. He should be the best linebacker on the team, and given the fact that two of the three linebackers in last year’s rotation were converted players, he should stand out above them even more.
