3. Transfers who are and aren’t early enrollees

We already knew about Tennessee football’s early enrollees from its 2022 recruiting class given the coverage of it. There are 13 true freshmen who make up that group. However, the question was how many transfers would add to that group. As of right now, Rocky Top has added five players through the portal.

Crazy enough, four of them are already on the roster for spring ball, meaning they’re competing now at their respective positions. Florida Gators transfer Gerald Mincey likely stands out the most since he’s a rising star on the offensive line and could immediately replace Cade Mays at right tackle or maybe replace somebody else up front.

Nebraska Cornhuskers transfer linebacker Jackson Hannah, to be fair, is playing a position that returns everybody from last year but still will likely have a wide open battle, so he makes things interesting. Appalachian State Mountaineers transfer Navy Shuler and UCF Knights transfer Charlie Browder won’t be competing for playing time at quarterback or tight end respectively.

However, Shuler and Browder do push the other competition, and they are now able to get a head start for next year. The only player who won’t arrive until the summer is Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets transfer defensive back Wesley Walker, and UT could have used him too.
