Ranking Tennessee football’s early enrollees for 2022 by potential impact

It’s pretty obvious wide receiver is a major open spot for Tennessee football this year given the departures of Velus Jones Jr., their slot guy, and JaVonta Payton, their No. 2 wideout. Sure, Cedric Tillman is back, but the Vols still need a lot more at the position if they’re going to be able to have any sort of similar offense they ran with Josh Heupel last year.
Chas Nimrod out of Arkansas’s Benton County could fill the void at wideout. On3 did have him as a four-star, even if he was a three-star everywhere else. Given his size, it’s very possible to see him being the guy to make an early impact, and new wide receivers coach Kelsey Pope will definitely give him a look.
Now, Nimrod does come with a couple of issues. All four receivers in the 2022 class were early enrollees, and he was the lowest-rated of all of them. Also, he’s one of three among them who could play the slot, and he also brings nothing unique to the table.
Combine that with the guys already on the roster, and it’s hard to see Nimrod working his way into the rotation this year at the position. However, he certainly gives the team more depth, and hey, there will be room for him to have an impact soon enough.
