San Antonio Spurs. Josh Richardson. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 3. player. 29. Guard

6’5″ 200 pounds

One of the greatest development stories in Tennessee basketball history continues to carry that to the NBA. Josh Richardson was a four-year player taken in the late second round of the 2015 draft by the Miami Heat. He became a starter his second year there as Dwyane Wade’s replacement, and since that second year, he’s averaged double figures every season.

This is Richardson’s fourth appearance in the NBA Playoffs. He made it as a rookie with Miami, and after four years there, he joined the Sixers and made it in 2020. Last year, he made it playing with the Dallas Mavericks. This year, after spending half the season in Boston, he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in February.

San Antonio went 11-10 with him in the lineup and finished 34-48 overall, so he clearly made them better. They face the New Orleans Pelicans in a play-in game Wednesday night, and the winner will face the Clippers Friday for that final spot.

For his part, Richardson is averaging 10.2 points a game this year, and in San Antonio, he’s averaging 11.7 points and one steal a game. Funny enough, he’s been amazing from three and the three-point line there, shooting 94.6 and 44.4 percent respectively, but two-point shots by him have been awful. Still, he’s an experienced player who should make a difference.
