Scouting Report. Forward. Grant Williams. Pick Analysis. Boston Celtics. 2. player. 18

6’6″ 236 pounds

In terms of value to their teams, Josh Richardson has Grant Williams beat. However, Richardson is playing for the underdog in a play-in game, so it’s not likely he makes it to an actual NBA Playoffs series, and if he does, his team almost certainly won’t get past the first round. Meanwhile, Grant Williams is on a team expected to reach the Eastern Conference Finals.

Unlike Jaden Springer and Yves Pons, who are also on such teams, Williams is expected to be a solid contributor on his team as well. As the 22nd overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Williams has gotten better every year, and this year, he started over a quarter of the season while appearing in 77 games and over 24 minutes a game.

In those appearances, Williams is averaging just under eight points a game. He is shooting 90.5 percent from the free throw line, but where his real difference shows up is from outside, as he makes nearly one and a half threes a game and shoots 41.1 percent from beyond the arc.

A true shooting percentage of .635 is highly efficient, and at 51-31, the No. 2 seed Celtics are going to rely on him heavily throughout the year. They face the Nets in the first round, so making the conference finals will trickier than it looks, but Williams will at least play a full series.
