All good things come to an end. In a shocker, the Tennessee Vols baseball team saw a 23-game winning streak that resulted in them reaching No. 1 in the country come to an end in a weird midweek game against a much smaller school.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with coverage of that loss. It’s not the only story on the diamond, though, as softball also has a midweek matchup for us to cover that will take place tonight. However, the baseball story is the biggest one.

Beyond the diamond, there is plenty of news on the golf course as well, where more success was seen. On the men’s side, an individual won a tournament while the team finished well, and the women begin postseason conference play this week. We’ll touch on all of that, but let’s start with the baseball news.

Tony Vitello recaps loss to Tennessee Tech – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

The Tennessee Vols baseball team lost to the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles Wednesday 3-2 in a game where both teams used wooden bats at Smokies Stadium in Kodak, Tenn., just outside of Knoxville. UT is now 31-2 and still 12-0 in the SEC with a visit from the Alabama Crimson Tide set for this weekend. Tony Vitello recapped the game Tuesday. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“I think you focus on the one loss instead of the 23 wins, if you asked me. I’m a coach. I’m not a player. But when I was playing, I sure didn’t like to lose. So if this doesn’t wake you up out of bed tomorrow morning, probably not with a good feeling or a good taste, but wake you up wanting to play some baseball, then I don’t know what will, you know?”"

Softball to visit Western Carolina – UTSports

Coming off losing two of three to the Georgia Bulldogs, the Tennessee Lady Vols will visit the Western Carolina Catamounts Wednesday for a midweek matchup. UT comes in at 26-12 and 8-6 in the SEC while ranked in the top 20 across the board.

"The game is set for 6 p.m. ET at the Catamount Softball Complex in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The contest will be streamed online via ESPN+, available at espn.com/watch and the ESPN app."

Women’s golf set for SEC Championships – SECSports

Wednesday marks the start of the SEC Championships for women’s golf. The Tennessee Lady Vols program will travel to the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Hoover, Ala., for the event, which will last through Sunday, April 17.

"The 2022 event will mark the fourth consecutive in which the championship will feature both stroke and match play, with match play on Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17. Three rounds of stroke play will occur the opening three days of the championship. The final round on Sunday was televised live on SEC Network for the first time in 2018 and will continue to be shown to a national audience once again in 2022."
