Tennessee football: Matthew Butler’s five best NFL landing spots
Missed NFL Playoffs
It appears as if the Denver Broncos finally have their quarterback in Russell Wilson, so they’ll be trying to get back to the NFL Playoffs for the first time since Tennessee football legend Peyton Manning retired. With former Vol A.J. Johnson a free agent, why not go for another guy who wore orange to shore up their defense?
Denver has needs all over on the defensive line, at edge rusher and defensive tackle. Given Butler’s experience playing defensive end before moving over to defensive tackle in Tim Banks’ scheme, that actually gives him multiple opportunities to thrive.
Defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero runs a 3-4 base defense that moves over to five down linemen at times, but either is a fit for Butler, who is probably at his best playing as a down linemen on the edge in a 3-4 and one of the tackle positions that’s not nose tackle if a 5-1 is truly used. Simply put, this franchise gives him lots of opportunities.
With the loss of Shelby Harris, there are no real proven starters to truly make up the rotation Evero wants, so Denver is bound to look in the draft for guys, and that’s where Butler comes into play. He could be a rotational guy this year there and emerge as a starter next year.
