Tennessee football: Matthew Butler’s five best NFL landing spots
Lost AFC Divisional Round
Why not stay in Tennessee? The Titans have a dominant line already with Jeffery Simmons and Denico Autry wreaking havoc on either side. However, depth has been a key issue for them there, and they will look to add more guys to the rotation to help Simmons and Autry this offseason.
The NFL Draft is the perfect place for them to do that, and Butler would be the perfect fit. If he is taken, the Titans would give the former Tennessee football defensive lineman a fair shot to be in the rotation, and then he could develop playing alongside Simmons, so there wouldn’t be a ton of pressure for him to contribute early.
Honestly, it’s the perfect situation. With Autry as a pure edge rusher and Simmons as a pure defensive tackle, Butler could either line up in the middle or spend time spelling Simmons on the outside and become the heir apparent to him in the future.
Butler’s role in a 3-4 is almost identical to Simmons, so there is no better person to play behind. He’s a win-win for the Titans who could use him next year for more help and then have the chance to rely on him down the road, a situation that works out perfectly for Butler.
