Won Super Bowl

Everybody knows about Aaron Donald and what he did to win the Super Bowl for the Los Angeles Rams late in the game this past year. However, depth is still needed at the position, and playing alongside a star lineman at a position of need is the perfect situation for former Tennessee football defensive lineman Matthew Butler.

Sebastian Joseph-Day left to sign with the LA Chargers, so there is an immediate need up front. Butler is not a nose tackle, but he could back up A’Shawn Robinson on the other side to help Donald and take pressure off of him on passing downs.

In LA, Butler could spend two years as a rotational player behind Robinson and then, when Robinson’s contract is up, he could become the starter on that side of the ball. It’s the perfect fit and the perfect defensive scheme, as he’ll play under Raheem Morris.

Offensive line, defensive back and linebacker are greater positions of need right now for LA if they want to repeat as Super Bowl champions. With no first round draft picks, all of the Rams’ focus in the draft will be about addressing depth, meaning to shore up their biggest needs, guys on the roster and the free agent market are more important.

Butler obviously fits that focus on the defensive line. Tennessee football linemen have a history of shining with the Rams, as Leonard Little became a superstar there. Butler, as a guy who can play on the edge or in the middle, could do so as well, particularly in Morris’ 3-4.
