Tennessee football makes cut for elite 2023 Mississippi WR Ayden Williams
Recent success in recruiting proves Tennessee football is building something, and Josh Heupel’s on track record coaching offense will make the Vols an attractive team for any wide receiver. As a result, nobody should be surprised when elite receivers look at UT. One from Mississippi is now doing just that for 2023.
Rocky Top recently made the top six for Ayden Williams. A four-star across the board out of Ridgeland High School in Madison County, Miss., Williams stands between 6’2″ and 6’3″ and weighs in the range of 180 to 195 pounds.
Joining Tennessee football on Williams’ list include the Ole Miss Rebels, LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, South Carolina Gamecocks and Jackson State Tigers. He announced them all with a graphic Wednesday afternoon on Twitter.
Given Williams’ rating and his size, he would be another player to help fill the void that will be left by Cedric Tillman at wideout once he inevitably leaves next year. Heupel recruited a lot of talent there this year, but none have the ratings Williams has.
Taking that into account, landing a guy like Williams would be a huge boost. There’s already wide open competition for the No. 2 wideout spot this year. With Tillman gone, Heupel could be searching for two players to fill both wideout positions next year.
Chas Nimrod, Kaleb Webb and Cameron Miller are all true freshmen in this class who could fill those voids. Walker Merrill and Jalin Hyatt should also be back next year. Williams would still provide a crucial amount of depth and could push for a starting role.
Currently, there are no favorites to land Williams on the Rivals Future Cast. However, Ole Miss is a majority favorite on the Rivals Fan Future Cast and On3, and they have received the only two 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, both with medium confidence. As a result, Tennessee football has a fight with Lane Kiffin to land him.
