Tennessee football’s top 10 winners from spring practice 2022

In addition to there being an open competition for the No. 2 wideout opposite Cedric Tillman, Tennessee football has competition for the slot receiver to offset Velus Jones Jr., and that’s going to be a tough void to fill. However, after converting to the Vols as a quarterback out of Mississippi and spending two years as a reserve, Jimmy Holiday may now fill it.
The graduate of Madison Central High School in Flora, Miss., spent the one scrimmage open to the media with the first team offense. Meanwhile, offensive coordinator Alex Golesh, in his press conference, noted that Holiday had shown “incredible growth.”
Taking those two things into account, it seems pretty clear that Holiday, given his elite speed, is in real competition to take one of those spots in the slot. Now, as you will see on this post, lots of players are vying for that spot, so even Holiday’s success may not be enough to put him there.
However, Josh Heupel and Kelsey Pope may run a deeper rotation this year, which could include a couple slot guys, and in that case, Holiday is still a winner. Despite being a junior, he’s got three years of eligibility left, so seeing action this year bodes well for his future.
