4. 15. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. New Orleans Saints. Alontae Taylor. Defensive back. player

Round 2; Pick 49

Honestly, there are many ways this is actually a bad landing spot. The New Orleans Saints had bigger needs on the offensive side of the ball and in the trenches. Looking at it just that way, Alontae Taylor likely belongs even further down this list.

However, there’s another layer to this. You have to take into account the fact that New Orleans as a franchise values Tennessee football players. Alvin Kamara was a steal for them in the NFL Draft and has been a Pro Bowler every year. Since then, they have loaded up with former Vols.

Marquez Callaway and Shy Tuttle have emerged as rotational players at wide receiver and defensive tackle respectively. Ethan Wolf has landed with the franchise as an undrafted tight end. Bryce Thompson was an undrafted free agent last year at cornerback and could make a run to play himself this year now that he’s fully healthy.

All of these things work in Taylor’s favor. Now, Thompson being there could work against him. Both, who were teammates in college, could be in competition for a roster spot at cornerback, and Thompson has been in the system for a year. Still, Taylor was a second-round draft pick, so he should be fine.
