Scouting Report. Chicago Bears. 3. player. 57. Pick Analysis. Wide receiver/Return specialist. Velus Jones Jr.

Round 3; Pick 71

Cordarrelle Patterson may have left a lasting impression on the Chicago Bears for Tennessee football wide receivers who are elite with the ball in their hands and can double as return specialists. That’s one feather in Velus Jones Jr.’s cap as he tries to stand out for his new team.

Now, Chicago as a franchise is one factor working against Jones. They are among the most incompetent franchises in the NFL, not quite there with the Washington Commanders and failed businessman Jimmy Haslam’s team, the Cleveland Browns. Still, they have made wrong move after wrong move for years.

That could hurt Jones, and it’s the one reason he’s not higher on this list. On the other hand, there’s clearly a need for a return specialist, ironically because of the departure of Patterson. As a result, Jones has landed in a good spot for now.

Does Jones being draft high by Chicago work against him, though? This franchise does value measurables over production, to its own detriment. On the other hand, Jones had production with Tennessee football last year. Either way, Chicago is invested in him to become one of their feature returners and maybe feature slot receiver, so he’s in a good spot.
