Happy Cinco de Mayo! It’s one of everybody’s favorite spring holidays, and speaking of spring, the Tennessee Vols spring sports are mostly getting set to begin postseason play. That makes up a huge coverage of our UT news for today.
However, our morning update on Rocky Top actually begins with regular season play on the diamond. Two days after a midweek matchup, the baseball program is set to begin another SEC series, this time on a Thursday.

Two days after a midweek win against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, the Tennessee Vols baseball team is back in SEC play. They begin their weekend series a day earlier than normal this time, as they’ll visit the Kentucky Wildcats for a three-game series Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
"First pitch for Thursday’s game is No. 1 is 7 p.m. EDT. SEC Network will televise the game.Friday’s game No. 2 is slated for 6:30 p.m. EDT, while the series finale will take place at 2 p.m. EDT. SEC Network+ will televise the final two games of the series."
Men’s tennis earns NCAA Championships bids – UTSports
Five Tennessee Vols men’s tennis athletes earned bids to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. That’s tied for second most in the nation.
"Graduate student Adam Walton and sophomore Johannus Monday qualified for the Singles Championship, while Walton and senior Pat Harper, as well as freshman Shunsuke Mitsui and senior Emile Hudd qualified for the Doubles Championship.The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs May 19-22. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will serve as host."
Women’s tennis earns NCAA Championships bids – UTSports
Three Tennessee Lady Vols tennis athletes earned bids to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. In addition to those selections, Tenika McGiffin was selected as a Singles alternate, and Rebeka Mertena and Esther Adeshina were selected as Doubles alternates.
"In singles, senior Rebeka Mertena earned an at-large bid, while in doubles Tenika McGiffin and Daria Kuczer were chosen for the draw.The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs May 19-22. Men’s golf to begin NCAAs in Bryan, Texas – NCAA.com
The Tennessee Vols men’s golf team earned a No. 4 seed at the Bryan NCAA Regional Wednesday for the preliminary NCAA Tournament rounds. Ahead of UT are the No. 3 seed Georgia Bulldogs, No. 2 seed Texas A&M Aggies and No. 1 seed Pepperdine Waves, who won the West Coast Conference. There are 13 teams in these regionals. No individuals were selected to compete.
"Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 16-18. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals."
